3 Tips for a Clutter-free Kitchen

23 May 2023

The kitchen is one of the most essential rooms in the house. People spend a lot of their time in the kitchen. The place is not just used for cooking; it is also used as a spot where people sit and chat with each other for hours during parties. This clearly means that this part of the house sees a lot of traffic throughout the day. From preparing three essential meals to grabbing snacks to doing homework or attending a meeting, countertops, and cabinets tend to get cluttered.

A messy kitchen can literally interfere with your everyday lifestyle. It will not just interrupt you while cooking, but it will also make you cranky when you find yourself lost in your own kitchen. Think of a situation wherein you are trying to bake a cake and you aren’t able to find the whisk. You are definitely going to get irritated, and your cake might end up being a disaster.

So, to avoid disasters of this kind, it is very important for you to keep your kitchen neat and clutter-free. An organized kitchen does not just make your life easy, but it even keeps your mind at peace. This is because a clutter-free kitchen allows you to work freely and calmly. It makes your work less exhaustive.

Now that you are aware of the ways an uncluttered kitchen helps, let us just look at some points that will help you maintain a kitchen that is organized so you can have a great time working in it.

1. Consider what you use the most

Before you start organizing your kitchen, you need first to make a list of the things that you use the most. For instance, you might have a toaster in your kitchen that you haven’t used in months. The same could be true for a juicer that you rarely use. So, now is a good time to ask yourself about the functionality of the items that are in front of you. If the items are not being used often, you are clearly aware of what you need to do with them. You definitely need to put them in the storeroom or keep them away from your counter. The list should also include décor that doesn’t really serve any purpose aside from collecting dust. To make this list, the best method that you should adopt is to take everything out of the drawers and cabinets and sift through it all at once.

2. Only keep what you need

Another way to declutter your kitchen is to look for things that are extra. For example, you might definitely have a lot of forks and knives lying around in your upper cabinet. These are of no importance, and they are only getting stuck when you open or close your utensil drawer. If you have additional dishes, silverware, or utensils, now is a good time for you to let them go. Options that you need to consider include mismatched pieces, chipped dishes, damaged items, and duplicates. While you undergo this process, ask yourself, "How many spatulas do you really use?"

You also need to consider gadgets and appliances, as they tend to take up the most space. If you have a bread maker and you have never used it to make bread, you need to let it go. You need to be realistic with how often you actually use what you have. When you ponder over this question, it will definitely help you keep away items that you genuinely do not use.

3. Minimalism is the key

It may not be what you want to hear, but the kitchen is a cesspool of germs and bacteria. For instance, salmonella, E. coli, and other microbes easily spread across surfaces when you prepare meat. A study even revealed that the sponge that is used in the kitchen has 54 billion bacteria per cubic centimeter, which many people use continuously to wash dishes, the sink, the countertops, and other surfaces. While you declutter your kitchen, you make space on the countertops, which helps you achieve a minimal look. When you do this, you automatically reduce the number of surface germs that spread to various items in your kitchen. Obviously, who does not want to have a kitchen that is safe and healthy to work in? So, maintaining a minimalist kitchen is the key to keeping your kitchen clean.

So, by now you must be aware of some easy ways that will definitely help you keep your kitchen more organized and clutter-free.
